YOU NEVER SAID GOODBYE

The first chapter of a powerful poetry series about love, loss and unanswered questions.

I was awoken by the creaking
of the hard wood floors
as you tip-toed out of the room.

the aroma of vanilla & sandalwood
filled the air,
i could almost taste you.

you knew what you were doing.
you knew i was intoxicated by your love.

and yet — you didn’t feel the need
to say goodbye.

instead, you vanished.
without warning..

i still search for you,
i still feel you,
i still see you in my dreams.

i remember, as if it was yesterday.

i pulled into the driveway,
with a single rose in hand.

anxious to share,
what i believed to be our destiny.

my chest on the verge of combusting.
my heart consumed by your fire.

palms shaking,
i opened the door,
eager to profess my love.

but it was too late.
you were gone,
as were your possessions.

i still recall the emptiness.
my soul,
shattered to pieces.

wondering..
why,
you never said goodbye.
